This wasn't happening. This was not happening. He did not go through Hell and back, though all sorts of weird and terrifying experiences only to die here on Earth because the bank he'd come into today was being held up.

It was not happening. Though as he crouched down behind one of the island counters in the middle of the bank, he did note that the bank robbers? Assailants? The bad guys, in any case, were impressively armed. One of them was carrying something that looked like a close cousin to a P90 and wasn't that a heartening thing to realize? He got his phone out and texted John with the help i'm in imminent danger sign that they'd worked out for bars and other things.

He concentrated on breathing in and out slowly, hyperventilating would just get him killed faster. And Shep would never ever let him hear the end of it if he got killed for something as stupid as this. Or Ronon or Teyla or Lorne. And he didn't even want to know what Radek would do.

He could do this. He was Dr. Rodney McKay, genius in two galaxies. He'd survived Wraith, Replicators, the Genii, the Ori, and John Sheppard's cooking. He could get through this.

While sitting on the cold, marble floor was not on Rajani's list of things to accomplish that day, she could not say this was a bad turn of events. She had, in fact, returned Mr. Big Bank CEO's tie - dry cleaned to remove the lipstick stains as she had promised - which is what she had set out to do when had entered the bank. She certainly considered the completion of the task a marked achievement.

Plus, this was her first hostage experience - where in she was the one being held against her will, though when she stopped to consider how fascinating she found the situation, she wondered if you could be considered a hostage if you were enjoying yourself, but sans the Stockholm Syndrome. She certainly did not empathize with and, or, like the dark clad men waiving giant kills sticks that clearly suggested over compensation - really, an efficient hold up at a bank only required a well oiled hand gun. But she couldn't help smile at her good fortune.

And to think she almost didn't stop on her way out to get gum balls!

Merrily she bounced her foot crossed over her ankle and scanned the rest of the sitting people around her. Their fear was ,a palpable force threatening to engulf her, but her efforts kept the feelings at examinable length. Fear was an interesting sensation that she did not fully understand yet. Physical sensations were as simple as breathing for her to understand and manipulate - but the brain and the chemical responses that dictated human emotions were a dark mystery that until just recently she had ignored. She considered her time spent in the bank today to be a wonderful learning adventure.

In scanning her fellow hostage-mates she noticed the man next to her, who seemed to be exhibiting far more emotional distress than most in her immediate vicinity, start to go for his cell phone.

"Are you sure that is a good idea?" Rajani ventured, keeping her voice low, "To be honest, I've never been in a hostage situation before, so I could be wrong regarding the appropriate protocols, but that might not be the smartest idea."

Rodney looked over at her with a look somewhere between irritated and shocked. "It's okay, I know what I'm doing." He muttered back as he hit send and then shoved the phone back into his pocket.

He moved back out of sight from the morons with guns and started to consider his options. No gun and no vest, so charging them was out of the question...he had alerted Sheppard, but that only was good if Sheppard's phone was on. He could hack into the computer network, but that would require some time and a computer or, hell he could make do with a Blackberry if he really had to. Negotiation would get him shot probably, and worse would bring him to their attention. He preferred...needed the anonymity that just another hostage would give him.

No one to cause a distraction for him either. He frowned as he continued to go through the mental list.

"Oh, so this isn't your first hostage situation?" Rajani was impressed - most people go their whole lives never getting this very experience. Clearly, if she wanted all the answers to such events this was the man to sidle up against - she could learn much from him, racing emotions radiating from him like heat from a pavement or not.

"So what do you think they will do next?" She moved closer to him, keeping her voice low, though, it was a needless precaution, the Men with Guns were currently looking in the direction of the vault or out the windows. "And when do you think they will start killing off the hostages, who do you think will be first?" She ignored the looks of horror from the others around them.

Rajani asked these questions merely to further her knowledge, despite the morbid quality. She really didn't think the situation will go that far.

"If I was being honest, it doesn't make the top five or ten really." Rodney replied with a thoughtful look. "They don't look like extremists, which means they're probably here for the cash, which statistically speaking means we've got a higher chance of walking out of here unharmed than we would if they were extremists. As for what they will do next? That depends on how quickly the SWAT or Federal agents or whomever get here and if they know what they're doing or not." He leaned back against the counter and closed his eyes briefly. He was getting hungry. Stuck as a hostage in a bank with no food. His day was just getting worse and worse.

He opened his eyes and looked at the pretty but obviously odd young woman who'd asked him the questions. "You don't happen to have any candy or gum or anything like that?"

“Not in your top ten?!” Rajani couldn’t keep the excitement out of her voice that time - he wasn’t just knowledgeable about hostage situations, he was a ‘professional’.

“What do you do that has lead you into so many? And why are you so distressed? Shouldn’t you be used to this kind of thing by now? This is my first time in a hostage situation where I’m the hostage. But to be honest I haven’t put much though about me getting harmed - it just doesn’t seem likely.”

Rajani did not have anything to back up her statement regarding her physical well being, she simply never considered her own safety - whether she was about to B.A.S.E jump from Angels Falls or speeding through city traffic at over hundred miles per hour - her fragile human condition, or that of others, was never a mitigating factory. Which was odd considering oh much pain she could feel from everyone around her...

“Oh, yes,” she had almost forgotten about the gum balls. She had purchased two already, and was about to put a quarter in to get another - she really liked watching the ball spin all the way down the contraption - when the Men with Guns had entered the bank. She held out her hand to the man, “you can choose, blue or purple?”

Rodney sighed, shooting the gorgeous woman an odd look. "You never quite get used to it, and this was not how I wanted to spend my day."

He took the blue one. "Thank you. I'm hypoglicemic and need to keep my sugar up." He hoped she didn't notice how he hadn't answered the questions.

"I had no plans for today other than to return a tie to..." Rajani looked around at the people scattered across the marble and saw the Big CEO on the floor, spread eagle, face down - not his best side for sure, but it wasn't as if Rajani was worried about seeing him again - Rajani nodded in the prostrate man's direction. "This is a fun turn of events."

"You are welcome," Rajani highly doubted the man next to her was in dire straights regarding his blood sugar levels, but he was fun to talk to, despite the apparent question avoidance on his part. It really only made her more curious, "You didn't answer my questions by the way."

Rodney sighed, "I'm working with a thinktank using some interesting research on government money. Not everyone thinks my project is a good spending of tax money." Which was the truth in a certain sense...if you squinted.

He shifted nervously, "What do you do?"

Rajani blinked, this was not the full answer - it was much to vague. "You are not a good liar."

But, fair enough, he obviously didn't want to tell her, and while she was absolutely committed to finding out what exactly this man did, she knew a thing or two about tactics. Patience, as much as she hated to exercise the virtue, did almost always pay off.

"Glad that you asked," Rajani looked over at the Armed Men to make sure they were adequately occupied before she reached into her purse and pulled out a card. "Rajani Bhatti, when I am not just a kept woman, I do event planning. I absolutely guarantee a wonderful, well remembered, completely pain free event, be it a wedding, bar mitzvah, or Gramps's 90th birthday celebration. Have not had one complaint yet."

Rodney made a face, "It's not a lie...exactly." He raised an eyebrow, "a kept woman? Interesting." He snorted, "Pain free...now that'd be a sight to see." He looked away briefly. "Rajani...you're Indian? Pakistani?"

Rajani let the comment about lying pass.

"Only when necessary, or fun. But mostly I run my business. Yes, completely pain free, I guarantee it. I do not advertise, all my business comes in through referrals."

Rajani gave the man next to her another appraising look, she didn't talk about her background often as it inevitably lead to discussions about her family. She looked over at the Men with Guns, she could feel their apprehension ease a bit, they must be getting close to their goal. Rajan decided she and this man probably didn't have that much time to get into the details about her past. "Both, yes."

Rodney nodded, "Fascinating." His pocket buzzed, but he ignored it. "So what're you doing after this? Got a boyfriend or something waiting for you?" He could do the small talk thing. He could, even if Sheppard thought he was bad at it.

From: [identity profile] lesadeshedonist.livejournal.com
Rajani could honestly say she was surprise. She was not surprised this man had just asked if she had a significant other - it wasn't uncommon of an inquiry in Rajani's experience - more that they were suddenly talking about possible future outcomes to this event. Not many in the room were thinking about the future in such a positive light.

"I am impressed, Hostage, despite your apprehensive exterior... and interior, you still harbor hope we will make it out of this alive."

She smiled, flattery won her over almost every time, "I think I need to know your name before I answer that question."

Rodney grumbled under his breath, "The universe wouldn't have me die...not when they can get so much more mileage out of me..."

He looked over at her, "I'm Rodney...Dr. Rodney McKay."

Rajani bit her lip to hold back the laugh. The pride and joy from the man, Rodney, was radiating in waves - he certainly took much pleasure in stating his title. "With an ego that big it's a wonder the universe doesn't take more shots at you, Doctor."

"I might have a girl waiting for me, but what hostage situation would be complete with the Hero and the Hot Babe sharing a moment that leads the audience to believe all is right in the world." Rajani smiled, "I'm free after this, Doctor."

Rodney gave her a bemused look, "My friend, Kirk, would agree with you." He thought for a moment, "A girl? You're..." He tried to come up with a polite way of asking about whether or not the gorgeous woman beside him was bisexual or something else.

"Free?" He coughed once, "Free is good, do you like coffee or possibly maybe even something a little more substantial?"

Rajani nodded at the half voiced question, "She won't mind, it's the way things are between us. She'll think I've found something else to entertain me, and then go find her own shiny."

"I suppose a hostage situation does require something stronger than coffee to facilitate the mental healing process. Do you know a good place?"

Date: 2009-09-11 01:45 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blewupsolarsys.livejournal.com
Rodney nodded hesitantly. "Alright." He smiled briefly, "Yes...yes, I do know a good place for food. Great steaks. Oh, you're not a vegan or anything like that are you?"

From: [identity profile] lesadeshedonist.livejournal.com
"Food? You move fast, Doctor Boy," Rajani teased.

"You mean, do I eat beef? That's a bit presumptuous to ask," Rajani feigned with a straight face, the Big Men with Guns completely forgotten. "You think because I am Indian I don't eat beef?"

Date: 2009-09-12 04:22 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blewupsolarsys.livejournal.com
Rodney smiled at her. "Is that a yes?" He waved his hands, "No no no, just wondering if you were going to be offended if I mentioned steak."

Rajani took pleasure in watching Doctor McKay flail about, and as such could only keep the straight face just a few seconds. The grin spread across her face, and she ignored the surprised, annoyed looks of the panicked patrons around her.

"Relax Doctor, my heritage might be tranditionalist, I am not, I just wanted to see if I could fluster you on top of this hostage experience." Rajani positively beamed at her accomplishment. "However, yes I prefer lamb to beef."

Rodney gaped for a moment before looking away and smiling. She'd...gotten him flustered and flailing better than most could.

"Good to know. I also know a place where you can get good grecian wrap sandwiches and they have lamb if I recall correctly."

From: [identity profile] lesadeshedonist.livejournal.com
"I suppose it is a date then," Rajani nodded. She considered how this experience was going, thus far it was difficult to see why everyone was so panicked, or anxious, but, she decided, they probably didn't see all the wonderful opportunities this whole deal provided.

"So," she looked towards the Men with Guns, "do you think they are about done? I mean, how much time does it take to get the money?"

Date: 2009-10-07 12:33 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blewupsolarsys.livejournal.com
Rodney nodded, smiling slightly. He risked a glance over at the armed assailants, "Not sure. It also depends on the police waiting outside."

"I wonder if we can speed things along?" Rajani said, dinner was sounding so good after a day like this. All that was required on her part was a bit of 'influence' for pleasure or pain, speed things up for one side, or hinder the other.

"The question is, which side do we want to win?" On any other day Rajani would just thwart both sides as more mayhem was better than a little bit of mayhem, but tonight she had a goal that needed achieving. Dinner, with the mysterious, odd man sitting next to her.

Date: 2009-11-01 03:14 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blewupsolarsys.livejournal.com
"The police," Rodney said, definitively. "We stand the greatest chance of surviving that way. And none of them look like they are wearing any explosive...so it's just the guns that we have to worry about."

Date: 2009-11-01 03:21 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lesadeshedonist.livejournal.com
Rajani nodded, not her first choice, those Men with Big Guns were working so hard to get that money, it seemed almost cruel to keep them from it.

Rajani peered out the large front windows, "The opposition has arrived."

And then at the men, "I'm not so worried about the guns. The question is," she turned back to the Doctor, "how much easier do we make it for the police? Your call, Brave Doctor."

Date: 2009-11-01 03:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blewupsolarsys.livejournal.com
"Very easy." Rodney said, "They'll want to keep us for statements and the like, which will take at least three hours if not more. And by that time, it will be dinnertime."

His stomach rumbled. "The sooner this ends, the sooner we can go and eat."

From: [identity profile] lesadeshedonist.livejournal.com
Rajani quirked a smile, "Not much for a challenge, hmm?" But she left the teasing at that.

She turned her attention back towards one of the Big Men. The look out to the right of the one working on the vault seemed like an apt target, he was a bit more twitchy than the others. Which meant his grip on his gun was the least sure. All the more better for Rajani. It was just a matter of extending her mental faculties in the right manner, pulling on that string of pain connected to the man's hands...

Predictably, for Rajani at least, the man yelped and jumped back from his position, dropping his weapon on the ground. He stared confusedly at his hands, rubbing them, while his team members dissembled from their well thought out plan to investigate why Man on the Right was distressed and deviating.

The police outside were on their toes it seemed, and were moving to take advantage of the ensuing chaos.

"I guess those guns are heavier then they look," Rajani shrugged.

Rodney considered sticking his tongue out at her, but decided against it.

He looked over hastily, "Yeah, they are fairly hefty."
